For The Love of Couples ~ Jason and Kendra

I love couples photography sessions. I smile from the time we start the session, through the editing process all the way to the time I post the pictures in my client’s proofing gallery. I don’t think I’ve laughed as hard or as much as I did at Jason and Kendra’s engagement session last week. They are an incredible couple with a great story of how they met. We spent around three hours together for their session and the joy and love they had for each other just oozed off of them the entire time. They were total troopers too, sunrise session, braving fields with giant mosquitoes, riding their tandem bike in the grass, hanging out with us until Treat cupcakes opened, seriously, they’re awesome. Prepare yourself for a lot of images…

They also allowed me to check an item off my photographer bucket list, engagement session with a tandem bike (aka bicycle built for two). Next stop, shoot a wedding in a vineyard (here’s to dreams right?).

I’m like a kid in a candy shop when I pick out flowers for my photo sessions. It is quite possible that sunflowers are my favorite, they photograph so beautifully and they’re so happy. Bonus, they get to brighten up my house after the session.

Engagment Picnic Photo Session

When I met up with Jason and Kendra at Starbucks, Kendra told me that her mom had asked if she was going to do “the photo”. It turns out both her parents and brother have the same photo of them sitting on a fallen tree. I told her I’d do my best to make it happen. It turned out that just behind where we set up our little picnic, two trees had fallen (thank you Houston drought).

Kendra, I highly considered stealing your boots.

After our woods excursion we headed over to Treat! cupcakes in Vintage Park. Many thanks to them for letting us take over their adorable shop for a moment to take some photos! (and for making delicious cupcakes)

After cupcakes we took just a few more photos which ended up being my absolute favorites. Remember how I mentioned the oozing of love, yeah these photos are all about it.

And that’s Jason and Kendra. Thank you both for allowing me to be a part of your lives, even if it was just for a few hours. You’re both wonderful!

Five Things

My dear wonderful friend Jo does this grand thing on her blog called Five Things Tuesday. Go check out her blog and her etsy shop cause she’s amazing. She covers five things that are going on/have gone on/will go on in her week in five short little bursts. Last night during our skype date until 4am I expressed my love for this part of her blog and asked if I could totally copy her. She said yes. My heart was happy.

That said this is not an original idea. Jo came up with it and I want to give her lots of credit (did I mention you should go check out her blog and her etsy shop?). I love five things cause there are often times things I’d really like to talk about on the blog/think you might find interesting but I don’t feel like it warrants an entire post. I don’t think it will be on Tuesdays cause that’s her day, so for now, my five things will be floating and since The Photography Chronicles has tuckered off this year I think it’s only fitting I find a new themed post.

That said, here’s my first ever five things.

1. The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games

So I haven’t read hunger games. Bill has. 90% of our youth group has. I borrowed the first book but haven’t  made time for myself had time to read it. We’re going to see it tonight at midnight. And since I haven’t read it I’m going in a complete Hunger Games virgin. I refuse to listen to conversation, read reviews, watch the movie preview. I have no idea what it’s about or the story line and I think I’m equally excited as the largest of the Hunger Games fans. I did the same thing with Twilight, after the movie I read all four books in three weeks. I have a feeling Hunger Games is going to walk the same path.

2.  The Tangible Kingdom

I don’t talk about my faith here much on the blog. I’m sure some people would say that makes me a bad Christian. I think mostly I stray away from it because there’s all these stereotypes that go along with Christians that I prefer not to be associated with cause I don’t relate to them at all. To be honest, those stereotypes, when they’re true, make me a little bit nuts. But my faith is a huge part of who I am and blogs are all about sharing life (right?). So we’ve started going through this book/workbook called The Tangible Kingdom with a group of friends. It’s pretty great, talking about community and loving people and basically how I prefer to live my life. I’m sure I’ll be sharing more on this later.

The Tangible Kingdom Primer

3. I’m Going To Tulsa Soon

Not this weekend but next I’m going to Tulsa. I’ve been SO busy with work that I haven’t really had time to think about the trip/get excited about it. But I am INSANELY excited. I’ve got a lot planned:

-Hanging out with/learn from my good friend and amazing photographer/person Brenda Horan for a day
-Shooting an engagement session in down town Tulsa (such a fantastic location)
-Staying with the lovely Joel and Bethia
-Do quick lunches, coffee, margaritas with some of my best friends in the world
-Visiting Andrea over at The Organic Bloom, a friend and also my amazing frame company supplier
-It’s in the works, but I’ll hopefully be doing some product shots for The Bridal Couture Girls
-Going to some of my favorite places there
-Having a BBQ with and taking pictures and product shots for Peanut & Pistachio
-And finally (because I’ve been wanting to forever) visiting The Vintage Pearl

(source)

4. Busy Busy Bee

I’ve been insanely busy and I’m extremely thankful. When you do what you love it doesn’t feel like work. I’ve been doing my best at balancing life: business, family, friends, managing a household, etc. I feel like I’ve been doing a pretty decent job (if I’m totally delusional please let me know).

5. I Listen To Obscure Music / Matisyahu In Houston

I listen to an obscure broad range of music. My iPod on shuffle can go from She & Him to Dixie Chicks to The Doobie Brothers to The Postal Service to Ray Charles to Prince to The Shins all in one session. Bill won’t let me listen to my iPod when he’s in the car cause he says I listen to weird music. Boo on him. I like my music.

On Sunday Matisyahu is going to be in Houston for a free show at Miller Outdoor Theater. I keep checking the website cause I can’t believe it’s true (it’s not listed on his touring dates on his site). But I’m pretty sure that it is and I’m going. By Myself. And I’m like 1000% ok with that because I like his music. It’s not like I have no friends but all my obscure music loving friends live in other places like LA, France, Tulsa, and Nashville. They’ll be there with me in spirit as I thoroughly enjoy the Jewish reggae stylings of Matisyahu.

And that’s my first five things post. Thanks Jo.

Senior Photo Session – Corey – Spring High School

I recently did a senior photography session with Corey from Spring High School and we had a blast. We know each other from our old church so we got to skip that awkward get to know you phase. Corey was willing to do what ever I asked and add his own bit of humor to the shoot. His best friend joined him and he was a great help keeping Corey’s wardrobe together and making Corey laugh. Later his mom joined us too and I got some shots of the two of them together that just make me smile.

And I LOVE these pictures of Corey and his mom Jeanette. They make me smile and melt my heart a bit. She’s my kind of mom.

This last shot was sort of spur of the moment. I grabbed Corey as we were all chatting it up in the parking lot and brought him over to this sign/pole. It ended up being one of my favorite shots. And that’s my senior session with Corey.

My First Quilt

My First QuiltI mentioned a while back that I’ve started my first quilt. In my head squares seemed difficult so I decided to do a simple stripe quilt, which I guess is a thing because after I worked it out in my head I started to see them everywhere. And with the help of the lovely Holly over at The Bijou Lovely and her fantastic blog posts and my friend Jamie over at Sunflower Seeds I went into it with an err of confidence and only a speck of what the heck am I doing. And wouldn’t you know, it was rather easy, I only had to rip one seam.

My First Quilt

The quilt is for our living room and is what I’ve now learned to be a baby quilt size. Since our living room is decorated in gray, black, white, and yellow I decided to use gray black and white Daisy Janie organic fabric for the top part and some to be determined yellow fabric for the back. The top is all done and I’m honestly really impressed with my skills (thanks to Holly and Jamie for your tips and encouragement).

I’ve been searching for the perfect yellow fabric for the back. There have been TONS of yellow fabric pins on my sewing projects pinboard on Pinterest. Several times Bill has leaned over, looked at my computer screen and exclaimed, “you’re looking at fabrics again?” After consulting my mom, Bill (who didn’t really have much of an opinion), and several friends I’ve decided on a fabric…

I’m in love with this fabric from Birch Fabric’s Storyboek Two Collection. It is a great yellow (from what I can tell), and has the white and gray in it too! I’ve also been considering adding a bit of blue to the living room as well so thank you tiny blue starfish, you’ll do just fine. It also reminds me a bit of my childhood. We used to spend time at a friend’s beach house on Galveston island when I was a kid and it reminds me of walking the beach early in the morning in my night-gown with my mom and our black lab Conan. We’d collect shells and Conan would chase the sand pipers. The tide would lick our ankles and I’d dig my toes into the wet sand. I look forward to creating similar memories with my kids.

I hope you enjoyed that stroll down memory lane. Now, back to quilting.

So I went to find a place online to order the fabric (I got my Daisy Janie fabric from Paper Thread Fabrics, I highly recommend them). I couldn’t figure out why no one had it until I went to Birch Fabric’s website and saw that my dream quilt backing fabric doesn’t come out until June.

Bummer.

So my first quilt is on hold until June. In the mean time I’m planning for my next quilt, but that’s for another blog post. :)

Facebook Pages Are Changing

Facebook has been changing everyone’s personal pages over to the timeline layout for the last few weeks. I’ve heard mixed feelings about it but like everything Facebook does people hate it at first cause it’s change from the norm and then a few weeks/months later get used to it and forget it was ever an issue. Shortly (March 30th) Facebook will also change over all it’s business Pages to a timeline style layout, if you manage a page, you’ve seen all the tours and prompting to change.

As a business I really like the new layout. They’re offering some really cool things, here’s a run down:

1. Pin A Post

Facebook Pin to Top
You can now tack a post to the top of your page. This is great if your running a promotion and you don’t want to have the post about it get lost at the bottom of your timeline as you post new things. Just pin it to the top of your page!

2.Photos, Likes and Apps Have Moved (And Are Awesome)

I really appreciate that photos, likes, and apps are at the top of the page with a larger graphic visual, instead of at the side as a text link with a teeny icon. Ie. You can actually find them!

They’re also WAY more customizable. You can customize what shows up first (I’ve chosen photos, videos, and our email newsletter sign up) by swapping positions. AND, drum roll…….you can change the icon photo. I did a quick “get the newsletter” button to check it out. Your new icon photos need to be 111×74 pixels and less than 5mb, otherwise Facebook will re-size them.
3. Edit & Highlight Stories

I also love, love, love that I can edit the timeline and highlight more important stories. If you highlight a story on your new timeline it will make it HUGE and beautiful so it stretches across the width of your timeline.

4. Private Messages
People can now private message you through your facebook page. This is a great and long awaited addition.

5. Three Cheers for Cover Photos

As a photographer I love the new cover photo (really, who doesn’t)! But there are some things to take note of. Make sure you create your cover photo at 851 px by 315 px. At any other size Facebook will re-size your image for you and things can get wonky. Also make sure you don’t put anything too crucial in that bottom left corner as your profile picture/icon photo will cover it up.

I should also note that I am not in love with either of my cover page or profile picture, I just wanted to get something up there so I could show you all what was going on with the Facebook page changes.

6. Additional Changes

There are several other additional changes that I haven’t highlighted here. HUGE changes to the admin panel, also the posts others make on your wall…er…timeline looks different.

The best way to adjust to all these changes is to do as much research and reading as you can and then just get in there and play around with settings and adjustments. Go explore and see what’s there. You have until March 30th to experiment and play with the new layout until you’re forced to make it live. Take advantage of the opportunity.

What I’ve Been Up To

Holy crow life has been busy these last few weeks. I’ve been a graphic designer photographer crazy person, it’s been all logos, websites, grad announcements, writing news articles, new facebook cover photo designs (for when facebook changes Pages to the new timeline layout), business cards, and photo session prep around here. In my blogging absence I thought I’d show you what I’ve been working on.

A Couple of Logos
I love logo design. It’s tedious and challenging and when it’s complete and my client is thrilled it’s insanely satisfying. I’ve done two logos over the last two weeks one for Stacy’s For The Love of Cake. If you haven’t tasted her cake you’ve definitely seen it, she does all of the prop cakes and cake pops for my party printables promo photo shoots.

We also rocked out some really lovely/awesome (if I do say so myself) new business cards for Stacy.

The second logo we completed recently was the Epic Generation logo for a church youth group in Maryland. The great thing about this logo is that the entire thing was created long distance the client in Maryland and us here in Houston. I love the wonders of technology. We worked together to bring the client’s vision to life. We did loads of research on Spartan warriors to create the perfect warrior stance for what the client was wanting. There is a lot of symbolism within this logo that goes along with the youth group’s vision. I’ll be doing a blog post on the logo design process using this logo as an example, stay tuned for that.

Graduation Announcements
As most of you know we do a lot of high school senior graduation photo sessions here at Diliberto Photo & Design. High school graduation is an awesome time of growth and change from childhood into the progression of adulthood. I love that I’m able to capture that moment.

I also love that I get to be a part of the festivities as graduation grows closer with custom designed graduation announcements. All our graduation announcements are custom designed, no templates here! I’ve got several in the works at the moment but here’s one that will be on it’s way to the printer here shortly.

Facebook Cover Photos

Shortly (March 30th) Facebook will change over all it’s business Pages to a timeline style layout, if you manage a page, you’ve seen all the tours and prompting to change. I’ll be going over a lot of the changes in tomorrow’s blog post, but one of the cool updates is that you now get a cover photo! I’ve had several clients request I put something together for them in preparation for the change. It’s definitely been fun.

And that’s a glimpse of what I’ve been working on lately. Now back to it!

The Suspense Is Killing Me

Trader Joe’s, seriously, “Spring 2012″ is not a good enough open date for me for your first Houston, TX location. I’m excited. I’m thrilled. I can not wait. I will probably be there opening day. Music will play. I will skip in slow motion through your store. It will be joyous.

And I’ve never been to a Trader Joe’s (though I have partaken of your goods, excellent).

The thing is, for me to go to a store that has a large selection of organic and natural foods and meats I have to travel about 35 miles (which is more common for Houston than I’d care to admit). The new Trader Joe’s, is 15 miles from my house! That’s like down the street in Houston terms! I will no longer have to scour my local grocery stores for organic items and pay twice the amount. I don’t have to plan my trip to buy some inexpensive organic chicken around traffic or the rest of my plans for the day, I can just go. Like I said, it will be joyous.

Houston Trader Joe's

So Trader Joe’s, I thank you. There’s a huge market for what you sell up here in the northern ‘burbs of Houston. You saw what Whole Foods couldn’t see. (Really Whole Foods, a new location in Katy before the Woodlands? Really?!) And all those other folks in Houston will be happy too when you open locations closer to them (I read that they’ll be taking over the old Alabama Book Stop on Shepard and Alabama).

However, an opening date would make me really happy. Really.

In the mean time I’ll continue to check your website every day.

Thanks!

-Chris

Home Made Bread Recipe

home made wheat bread recipe

Several weeks ago I decided that I was going to make some bread, from scratch. With everything I’ve ever cooked and baked making homemade bread was not something I’d ever done. And to be honest it was sort of daunting.

A few months ago I bought some yeast, you know just in case the urge struck me.

Then one fine morning I looked at my kitchen aid mixer and said, out loud, “let’s make some bread”.

I haven’t bought bread since.

It’s insanely easy to make and I’m kicking myself for not trying it earlier.

I started off with the “Traditional White Bread” recipe out of my Betty Crocker Cookbook. But as with any recipe I couldn’t just follow the instructions so I’ve been trying different variations until I found something I liked and would fit with our whole organic house hold.

You’ll Need:
1-2 Cups White All Purpose Flour
5-6 Cups Whole Wheat Flour (I like the bulk kind at Wholefoods, it’s ground nicely and makes a nice bread)
3 Tablespoons Raw Sugar (You can substitute with honey if you want a honey wheat bread)
1 Tablespoon Salt
2 Tablespoons Butter Melted
2 Packages Regular or Quick Active Dry Yeast (comes out to 4 1/2 Teaspoons)
2 1/4 Cups Very Warm Water (120° to 130°)
2 Tablespoons Butter

1. In your mixer mix 1 1/2 Cups White Flour and 2 Cups Wheat Flour, the sugar, salt, melted butter, and yeast. Add warm water. Beat on low speed for 1 minute (or until mixed) and don’t forget to scrape the bowl. You’ll start to smell the yeast. It smells awesome. Stir in enough of the remaining wheat flour one cup at a time until you can handle the dough without it sticking everywhere. This will take a while to master.

2. Use the remaining 1/2 Cup White Flour to flour a surface, kneed dough on floured surface for 5-7 minutes or until it is smooth and springy. Pat yourself on the back for rocking out a quick arm workout. Put the dough in a large bowl that you’ve greased with the remaining NOT melted butter. Cover the bowl loosely with a light weight towel in a warm place to let it rise for about 40 to 60 minutes. Take the time to do something productive.

home made wheat bread recipe

wheat bread recipe

3. Grease two loaf pans with butter.

4. The dough is ready if you poke it and the indentation stays. Lightly punch the dough with your fist to deflate it (this part makes me laugh) and divide it in half. Flatten each half with your hands into an 18 x 9 inch rectangle on your floured surface. Roll your dough tightly (starting at the 9 inch side), pressing down with your fingers to seal it with each turn. Once rolled pinch the edges and roll them under the sides of the loaf. Place each loaf seal side down in your greased pans. Cover em with that same light towel from before and let rise for 25 to 50 minutes until the double in size. While you wait do a little dance cause you’re making home made bread.

5. Heat oven to 425°

6. Put a bit of butter on the top of your loaves and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the loaves are deep golden brown and sound hollow when you tap them. Bask in the delicious smell which now fills your house. After they’re baked pop the loaves out and let them cool a bit on a wire rack. I usually can’t wait for them to cool so I slice a piece and eat it with a bit of butter. I mean, you have to taste test them right?

Home Made Wheat Bread

I know it sounds like a lot of work, but really once you’ve mixed everything it’s just a matter of waiting for it to rise. And think of all the cool stuff you could do in that time!

Like I said, we haven’t bought bread since I first baked our own. My grandfather and grandmother used to bake their own bread all the time, and now I know why. Cause it’s awesome. I bought some large twist tie bags from Wal-Mart so I usually pre-slice a loaf. And since Bill and I can’t finish two loaves in a week I usually gift the other loaf. It’s been wonderful to see the look on my friends faces when I hand them a loaf of fresh baked bread. It makes my heart happy.

From here I’ll be experimenting with different kinds of flours (I get a little giddy when I look at the bulk flour section at Whole Foods). I’ll let you know how it goes.

How To :: Make Fabric Rosettes

I kept seeing these really great fabric rosette pieces on Pinterest, adorable necklaces, shirts, and even a fab tree skirt. I decided to go ahead and try to make said tree skirt (without a tutorial). Fabric RosettesI could figure out most of it but the fabric roses (or rosettes) stumped me a bit. I searched for tutorials but couldn’t find any that would create rosettes like I wanted, so I just figured it out. When I posted a picture on my instagram I got several inquiries about how I did them, so here’s a tutorial for you!

How to make fabric roses

You will need: Some fabric (remnant fabric works, something light weight and cotton works best but I’m sure you could use a knit or heavier cotton, heck, experiment), a needle, thread, a ruler, and scissors.

Fabric Rose Tutorial

Start by cutting your fabric in a long 2″ wide strip. The length of my strip was the original width of the fabric (I left it folded, as it was on the bolt and then just cut through two inches). Your strips of fabric do not have to be exactly two inches wide, I eyeballed it on all of mine.

Rosette Tutorial

Fabric Rose Tutorial

Next fold your strip in half so it is now one inch wide. Run your fingernail down the fold to make sure it stays folded (if you’re super hard core you can iron it, but it’s not necessary).

Start your fabric rose by rolling the fabric in on itself to create a roll (think jelly roll or taquito). Once you roll it a bit, flip it over to the raw edge and sew a few stitches to tack your fabric together. It doesn’t have to be pretty, no one will see it.

Fabric Rose Tutorial

Continue to wrap the fabric in on itself. Put in little folds toward the raw edge to add a bit more volume to your fabric rosette. Every few turns flip over your rosette and tack it down by sewing a few stitches.

How to make fabric roses

Your fabric rose should start to take form.

How to make fabric roses

For my fabric roses, mid turn, I flip over the fabric to allow the raw edge to be at the top of the rose. When you fold the fabric over, mold it to make a cool petal looking loop. You don’t have to do this, I just wanted them to be a little more messy and raw. Let the raw edge stay at the top of the flower for a few turns and then tack it down again. Flip it back over and keep rolling and tacking with stitches. To make a tight rose, keep the edges tight together, if you want a wider flower work the edges outward.

To finish off the flower tack down the edge. The back will look messy. Don’t worry, it’s fine. Now flip it back over and admire your handwork.

What I love about these flowers is you can make them with any kind of fabric, color, pattern, etc. You can also make them larger and smaller by cutting thinner and shorter strips. For tighter flowers (like the ones in the necklaces above) cut thinner strips or fold them twice, sew the fabric tighter together, and flip it/twist it a lot. You can also sew little pearls or gems into the center. Since it’s impossible for me to just sit and do nothing, I made most of my flowers while sitting on the couch and watching a movie. I’ve got about 35 to go.

Also, many thanks to my dear husband Bill for shooting some of these pictures. You have a photographic eye that never ceases to amaze me. There’s no way I could have shot this tutorial without you.

Share with Diliberto Photo and Design Houston

Did you enjoy this tutorial? How will you use your own fabric rosettes?

A Website Marketing Tip, A Soap Box Moment

I don’t rant here much (unless it’s about the lack of available and inexpensive organic meats). But I’m coming across a problem more and more and it’s hurting businesses and I’m not sure if people are just uninformed or if they just don’t care, but it needs to stop.

People MUST stop building all Flash websites (ahem, photographers).

Just don’t do it.

Slowly back away.

If someone suggests you build an all flash website slap them right in the mouth.

Several years ago flash was all the rage. Websites were finally more dynamic than just static boring HTML. Pictures could float in and out of the screen. Buttons could bounce and dance. There could be very smooth fading transitions on image slideshows. You could build silly videos of stick people dying in horrible ways (remember those?). It was magical and beautiful and lovely and photographers made delightful websites where their pictures floated ever so gracefully from one to the other and then every person who saw their AMAZING websites booked with them (ok, so maybe not, but I think you get my point).

Flash was great then. But now (sorry Adobe) it’s kind of out dated as far as websites go, even archaic. But pre-built website companies are still boasting their AMAZING flash sites.

Like I said, just slowly back away. Cause if you get a flash site (or if you already have one) it’s not out dated because of the style, I mean who doesn’t love a graceful image transition, but it can actually hurt your business. Here’s two HUGE reasons:

1. Apple mobile devices (iPhone & iPad) do not support flash websites.
I know some of you Apple hatters are standing up at your fancy PC computer with your android phone and are shaking your fists in the air and screaming out that you don’t need to cater to those stupid Apple users! The fact of the matter is, you do. Whether you like it or not they (those stupid apple users) are probably your clients. As of November of 2011, according to the marketing research firm NPD, the iPhone4 remains the most popular smartphone in the United States. And while the iPad has recently received some serious competition it’s still remains in the top 4 tablet PCs in the United States. Sadly for us, until Apple and Adobe figure out their differences Apple won’t support flash sites.

In case you don’t have an iPhone, here’s what it looks like when someone visits your fancy flash site:

Screen Shot of My Own iPhone, Checking Out a Photographer's Site

2. Search engines don’t really like flash sites.
They’re not BFFs, not that they hate each other, they just don’t really talk much. It’s assumed that most people know this, but I think that’s a poor assumption because I keep seeing SO MANY fully flash based websites. Basically there’s not enough dynamic content (text and other delicious items that search engines like) for the search engines (like google, yahoo, bing, etc.) to index your site. What does this mean for you? When a potential client types in “awesome Houston photographer” or “best Mexican restaurant” or “basket weaving specialist” or “insert your primary search terms here” you’re not going to show up in their search results. It’s a sad day and probably a loss of a client.

So what does this mean?
If you currently have an all flash website, or a mostly flash site, people surfing the web on Apple mobile devices and people searching on search engines can’t see you or find you. You’re invisible, which last time I checked is not really the goal of a website. AND if you’re advertising your business on a car magnet (hit hint lady in line in front of me at Starbucks the other day), and you have a flash site, the curious person who wants to check out your work while they wait for a delicious triple shot espresso over ice with a splash of cream gets that lovely “This site requires flash.” screen. You’re wasting your advertising dollars (which makes me cringe), and probably irritating if not loosing a potential client.

If you already have a flash site, what can you do?
If you’ve purchased your flash site from a pre-built website place (like bludomain, or photobiz, or one of the other hundreds of site providers) make sure you’re taking advantage of the html/mobile device option too. Most of the good pre-built site providers offer this as an option. USE it. If you’ve hired someone to build a custom flash site talk to them to see if they can build you an html site to match. There has been talk that there are ways to make your flash site more visible to search engines but it’s still not as effective as traditional search engine optimization, and even if you go this route you still have the problem of being invisible to Apple users (I should clarify, Apple computers CAN see flash, mobile devices like iPhone and iPad cannot).

The other option is to refresh your look and build a new site. WordPress is an incredible website building and management tool and is so much more than blogging (my whole site is created in WordPress). There are tons of WordPress plug-ins that mimic everything that flash can do. If wordpress isn’t for you and you’d like to have a custom coded site there have been amazing advances in coding language that allow for many of the same bells and whistles flash can offer.

I didn’t write this post as a plug for our own website designing services but we do design and build websites here at Diliberto Photo & Design. Most recently we build www.plantmeet.com (a completely WordPress site) and www.NCPA.us (a custom coded site).

Really though, this post is to inform, nay, BEG people to back away from the all flash sites. Don’t hurt your own business.
