It’s finally here. For months I’ve been counting down the days. On Friday Trader Joe’s opened in Houston (and Fort Worth too). There was NOTHING out here in the northwestern burbs as far as organic/natural/awesome grocery stores. The closest Whole Foods is 31.6 miles away, why they’re building one in Katy I will never know. But Trader Joe’s was smart. They stuck their first Houston store in The Woodlands where there is high income levels and nothing else comparable to Trader Joe’s. High five friends cause your store was crazy packed on Friday, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to stay that way for a while.
I’ve read news articles that people came from as far as Sugar Land and Katy for the opening. Even the guy from the HEB commercials (a local grocery store chain) was spotted at the opening checking out the competition. Two more locations are to open this year in the Houston area, one on Memorial near Voss and the other in the old Alabama Book Stop building on West Alabama.
The lines to check out were crazy long but Joe’s was well staffed and very organized. I was impressed. Bill stood in line with the cart while I shopped and brought things back to him. He’s kinda the best husband ever.
We ended up buying the following (I should have taken a picture): 6 Organic Lemons, 2 Organic Cucumbers, 1 Organic Bell Pepper, 1 lb. of Grass Fed Sharp Cheddar, 1 lb. of Spring Gouda, Orange Mango Juice, Organic Bread Crumbs, 3 Tillapia Fillets, Turkey Corn Dogs (yeah that was my splurge), Frozen Edamame, 1 Can of Artichoke Hearts, 2 Organic Oranges, 1 Ciabatta Baguette, 1 lb. Organic French Roast Coffee, Organic Corn Flakes, and at least one or two items I’m forgetting for $51.74. Not too shabby.
That all said, Trader Joe’s we’re really glad you’re here. Thanks!
